Gen Fest

Young people head to Brazil this July for Focolare’s Genfest 2024

February 6, 2024

An Oceania contingent will participate in the international Genfest this year in Brazil and neighbouring countries from 12–24 July. Organised by the Focolare’s Youth for a United World International, it promises to be a unique, unforgettable experience of universal fraternity for thousands of young people who will come from around the world.

Genfest will unfold in three parts, with the first ‘social action’ phase featuring volunteering projects across South America, including in Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Mexico, Peru and Venezuela from 12–18 July. Participants will gain hands-on experience and engage in projects that truly make a difference for people.

Inspired by their volunteering, participants will then converge for the second part, the ‘main event’ to be held 19–21 July in Aparecida, São Paulo, Brazil. The festival atmosphere will include celebrations, performances and real-life experiences from around the world.

A third phase, ‘community pathways’  21–24 July in Aparecida, will follow with various programmes and modules that continue and enhance the Genfest experience. In various fields, there will be activities that promote fraternity, dialogue, social and political engagement within a global context (local projects with a worldwide perspective). Young people are welcome to be part of this global journey of fraternity and unity!
